The Urban Design Studio Sarajevo is a collaborative workshop space located in the heart of Sarajevo. This City Action Lab is to function during the entire lifecycle of the project as a working and exhibition space with multi-stakeholder workshops and a permanent staff.
EXHIBIT AND EDUCATE
While urban designers, architects and researchers use the Urban Design Studio as a workspace and office, it is also a public space that is used for educating different stakeholders such as citizens about the history and city of Sarajevo. Hosting a general information basis and accomodating regularly changing exhibitions, visitors can inform themselves on past and current topics of the local urban sphere.
Besides helping to generate an understanding of the context, which includes historical, national and religious knowledge, project proposals and actions are being shown. This is not only to inform the public and everyone involved but also to give them a chance to reflect on the future of the city and actively form an opinion of their own to further engage in the development of Sarajevo.
Furthermore, curated events such as workshops or lectures give visitors the opportunity to ask questions and raise critical concerns.
SPACE FOR EXCHANGE AND ENGAGEMENT
Through the educational offers, people are empowered to engage actively in the discussion on the future of Sarajevo. Especially local citizens are encouraged to participate in roundtable discussions and propose their own ideas. A physical city model lies the foundation for the discussions and helps lay people to comprehend the surroundings and to locate themselves within the city.
The Urban Design Studio Sarajevo aims to bring the different stakeholders together in order to develop coherent project proposals. It aids considering everyone’s needs and making sure that, as the city is developing, no-one is forgotten or left behind.
